Clear communication is necessary. If you have any medical conditions, recent injuries or surgeries, or regular medications, the massage therapist needs to be informed prior to the massage treatment. You need to fill out a health history form.
Contraindication is a condition that serves as a reason to withhold or refuse a treatment due to the harm that it would cause a patient.
Contraindication in massage means that massage treatment SHOULD NOT BE USED; Massage being contraindicated means massage should not be applied in the given condition or circumstance.
Below is a list of conditions that you should make your massage therapist aware of immediately. In doing so, you are ensuring your safety and providing the massage therapist with valuable information that will allow them to provide you with safe, effective massage care.
When you have any of these conditions, the therapist should not provide massage therapy:
* Fever
* Contagious or infectious diseases
* Under the influence of drugs or alcohol
* Recent operations
* Neuritis
* Skin diseases
The therapist can massage but not over any areas affected by-(Please see my referral).
* Varicose veins
* Undiagnosed lumps or bumps
* Pregnancy
* Bruising
* Cuts
* Abrasions
* Sunburn
* Undiagnosed pain
* Inflammation
If you suffer from any of the following conditions, massage can only take place once it has been approved by a Physician- (Please see my referral).
* Cardio-vascular conditions (thrombosis, phlebitis, hypertension, heart conditions)
* Any condition already being treated by a medical practitioner
* Edema
* Psoriasis or eczema
* High blood pressure
* Osteoporosis
* Cancer
* Nervous or psychotic conditions
* Heart problems, angina, those with pacemakers
* Epilepsy
* Diabetes
* Bell’s palsy, trapped or pinched nerves
* Gynecological infections
Contraindications to Hot Stone Massage or Thai Compress Ball Massage
Hot stone massage or Thai Compress Ball Massage are not suitable for everyone.
Please review the list of contraindications below. If any of these conditions apply to you, then you should NOT book a massage.
*Blood clots / prone to blood clots
*Bruise easily
*Cancer, chemotherapy or radiations treatments
*Depressed immune system
(lupus, HIV/AIDS, cancer, Epstein Barr, mononucleosis, etc.)
*Diabetes
*Fever
*Heart problems
*Heat Sensitivity
*High Blood Pressure
*Inflamed Skin Conditions
*Nerve Trauma
*Neuropathy
*Open wounds or sores
*Peripheral vascular disorder
*Pregnancy
*Recent Surgery
*Taking medications that have side effects to heat
(Please check with your pharmacist if you are not certain.)
*Varicose veins
